DOBERMANN OF THE YEAR COMPETITION
The object of this competition is find the “ALL ROUNDER” both
in conformation and obedience.
1. The registered owner must be a financial member of the Dobermann Club of
WA (Inc). Current members must renew their membership by the 1st March or
they will be ineligible to enter any competition conducted by the Club. Retrospective
points will not be allocated to un-financial members. New members will have
points allocated from the time their membership takes effect.
Members or persons with outstanding accounts or penalties shall be ineligible
to enter, exhibit and/or otherwise participate in any event conducted by the
Dobermann Club of WA. Persons who normally reside with Members or persons
with outstanding accounts or penalties shall be ineligible to apply for membership.

2. If the ownership of the Dobermann changes, the points gained for any competition
shall remain, provided that the new owner, is or becomes, a full financial
member of the club. A Dobermann must be continuously owned by full financial
member(s) of the Club to remain eligible for the competition year. (amended

3. At least one of the registered owner of the Dobermann must be a bona fide
resident of Western Australia and the resident owner(s) within 100km radius
of Perth must have assisted the Club in the organisation and or running of
at least one event in that competition year. (amended 2005 & 2006)
4. All trophies and or other awards presented as in a perpetual nature must
remain in Western Australia, at all times, unless prior approval is given
by the management committee. All trophies must be kept in good order and returned
to a place or person as designated by the management committee.
5. If the holder of a perpetual trophy ceases to be a financial member of
the club, is expelled or suspended, shall return such trophy or trophies to
a place or person designated by the management committee, within seven days
of such event.
6. The top scoring Dobermann that has the highest placing in the Top Show
Dog, with at least two Best of Breeds over 15 points at the breed level, and
the Top Obedience Dog competitions will be named “The Dobermann of the
Year” and will be eligible to receive the TOP SCORER trophy and have
the Dobermann's name ONLY engraved in the appropriate place on the trophy.
In the event of a tie there may be more than one (1) winner. (amended 15th
February 2001 previously rule 12).
UP & COMING DOBERMANN OF THE YEAR
7. Points will be calculated only on wins and places in the FIRST CLASS ENTERED.
8. All CAWA sanctioned Championship Shows & any four (4) CAWA sanctioned
Obedience Trials are eligible for Up & Coming Dobermann of the Year Competition.
Only the top 12 scores obtained in the competition and 4 obedience trial scores
per dog at the end of the competition year or when the dog turns 18 months.

9. After attaining CD, Novice Competition is allowed for a period of six (6)
months commencing from the date of the first Canine Association of Western
Australia (Inc.) sanctioned Obedience trial that the dog competes in.
10. No dog can be entered for CDX until it has gained its CD. No dog can be
entered for UD until it has gained its CDX. Scores from “competition”
classes will be accepted after gaining a third (3rd) pass for a CD title.
11. Rules for obedience trials are as described in the ANKC Rule book.

14. Points system for Shows (amended 2006)
- 3 points are awarded for a class win, 2 points for a second place &
1 point for third place, plus one point for each dog beaten in that class
for each place winner.
- The best of class will be awarded in addition to their place points, 1 point
fore each Dobermann of the opposite sex beaten for that award.
- Challenge Winners: 4 points (additional), Reserve Challenge Winners: 2 points
(additional)
- Best of Breed: 2 points (additional), Runner up Best of Breed: 1 points
(additional)
- Best in Group: 2 points (additional), Runner up Best in Group: 1 points
(additional)
- Class in Group: 2 points (additional)

c) Points System for Obedience Competition:
CD: Divide all points actually gained in trial by 30. Add
additional 5 points if a qualifying score is gained in trial.
CDX: Divide all points actually gained in trial by 20. Add
additional 5 points if a qualifying score is gained in trial.
UD: Divide all points actually gained in trial by 10. Add
additional 5 points if a qualifying score is gained in trial.
15. There will also be a trophy awarded for the “Up & Coming Dog”.
16. The points for the Up & Coming Dog are the same as for the Dobermann
of the Year Competition, except that:

a) When a dog reaches 18 months of age, no further points will be credited
to him for the Up & Coming Trophy. All points gained to this date, including
those gained in the previous year, may be submitted for that competition year.
b) (deleted 12th February 2004) .
c) There is no compulsory obedience section for this award, although scores
gained in trials will be included.
d) There is no compulsory challenge win for this award.
GENERAL
18. The competition shall end on the 31st December.

20. Full financial members of the club will have their scores recorded by
an official club scorer and progressive scores will be printed in the Tailess
Times from time to time.
21. These rules are the only rules for this competition, all previous rules
are hereby cancelled and declared null and void (as at 23rd February 2006).

TOP OBEDIENCE DOG
The object of this competition is to find the best Obedience Dog or Bitch
of the Year according to the following rules:
1. The competition shall run from 1st January each year and conclude on 31st
December except for 1997/8 where it shall commence on 1st November 1997 and
conclude on 31st December 1998.
2. Points will only be counted as per rule 1 - 5 of the Dobermann of the Year
Competition.
3. Points shall be gained from any CAWA sanctioned Obedience Trial held within
the state of WA during the period of the competition. Only the best four (4)
qualifying scores will be counted. (amended 15th February 2001)
4. A dog who has attained CD is permitted to compete in a maximum of six (6)
Novice Competition trials within a period of six (6) months from the date
of the first Novice Competition trial competed in.
Points Allocation
CD: Score card points. No bonus for qualifying.
CDX: Score card points. Add additional 15 points if a qualifying
score is gained in trial.
UD: Score card points. Add additional 30 points if a qualifying
score is gained in trial.
5. The dog or bitch that scores the highest aggregate from a maximum of four
(4) hall be declared the winner and will receive the perpetual trophy allocated
and be entitled to have the dog or bitches name ONLY engraved on an appropriate
place on the trophy. This trophy may be held by the winner in accordance with
Rule (4) of the Dobermann of the Year Competition until the conclusion of
the competition. There will be no replica trophy. A sash will be awarded to
the winner and second and third placegetters at the AGM. (amended 15th February
2001)

TOP SHOW DOG
The object of this competition is to find the best Dobermann of the Year in
conformation by recording Challenge points awarded during the period of the
competition and according to the following rules:
1. The competition shall run from 1st January each year and conclude on 31st
December except for 1997/8 where it shall commence on 1st November 1997 and
conclude on 31st December 1998.
2. Points will only be counted as per rule 1 - 5 of the Dobermann of the Year
Competition.
Points Allocation
3. a)
i) For a Challenge win, points will be the number of Challenge points gained.
ii) Best of Breed winner will gain additionally one point for each Dobermann
of the opposite sex which was eligible for the Challenge (ie if a bitch wins
a 10 point Challenge & goes on to win Best of Breed over five males above
Baby class, then that bitch will attain a total of 15 points towards Top Show
Dog for the year); the maximum points available at any one show is 25 points.
iii) A Dobermann winning Best Exhibit in Group will obtain in total the Challenge
points awarded (normally 25 points).
iv) If the Runner-up Best of Breed did not gain Challenge points, then the
points awarded to the Challenge winner which that Runner-up defeated will
be allocated to the Runner-up, for the purposes of calculating the Top Show
Dog award.
b) Points can only be gained from CAWA sanctioned Championship shows held
within the state of Western Australia during the period of the competition.
c) (Deleted 2005)
4. Should a dog or bitch gain points under the same judge more than once during
the period of the competition, only the first points will be credited.
5. The dog or bitch scoring the highest number of points during the competition
period shall be declare winner and will receive the allocated perpetual trophy
and will be entitled to have the dog or bitches same ONLY engraved on an appropriate
place on the trophy. This trophy may be held by the winner in accordance with
Rule (4) of the Dobermann of the Year Competition until the conclusion of
the competition. There will be no replica trophy. A sash will be awarded to
the winner and second and third placegetters at the AGM.

The object of this competition is to find the best Agility Dog or Bitch of
the Year according to the following rules:
1. The competition shall run from 1st January each year and conclude on 31st
December.
2. Points will only be counted as per rule 1 - 5 of the Dobermann of the Year
Competition and those rules will apply.
3. Points shall be gained from any CAWA sanctioned Trial held within the state
of WA during the period of the competition. Only the best six (6) qualifying
scores will be counted.

TOP JUMPING DOG
The object of this competition is to find the best Jumping Dog or Bitch of
the Year according to the following rules:
1. The Rules for Top Jumping Dog are to be the same as the rules for Top Agility
Dog.
2. These rules are the only rules for this competition, all previous rules
are hereby cancelled and declared null and void (as at 23rd February 2006).
